- Tire Pressure & Tread – Make sure your tires are properly inflated and free from debris that could cause a flat.
- Wheel Security – Check that quick releases or bolts are tight. Spin your wheels—if they wobble, it’s time for a tune-up.
- Brakes – Squeeze the levers to ensure strong, even stopping power. Inspect pads for wear.
- Suspension Check – Compress and release to confirm smooth function.
- Chain Lube – A dry chain is a sad chain. If it looks crusty, add some lube.
- Gear Check – Shift through your gears to make sure everything engages cleanly.
- Essentials – Double-check your tools, spare tube, and pump.
Monthly Maintenance (Every 500 Miles)
- Deep Clean – Wipe down your PEV, especially the drivetrain. Use soap and water if it’s caked in dirt.
- Chain & Gears – Degrease and re-lube your chain and cassette.
- Bolt Check – Go over all key bolts (cranks, pedals, seat post, handlebars, accessories) to ensure they’re tight.
- Brake & Shift Cables – Lube and inspect for fraying or rust.
- Spoke Tension – Lightly squeeze spokes to check for loose ones.
- Suspension Love – Lube moving parts per the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Every 6 Months
(2,500 Miles)
- Frame & Fork Inspection – Look for cracks, dents, or damage.
- Tire Swap – If the tread is worn down, replace them. Also, check your spare tube and patch kit.
- Bearing Systems – Inspect and adjust hubs, bottom bracket, and headset.
- Cable Replacement – If your brake or shift cables look worn, swap them out.
- Brake Pads & Grips – If your brakes feel weak, check the pads. If your grips or bar tape are shredded, replace them.
- Full Drivetrain Clean – Scrub your chain, derailleurs, and cassette.
Yearly Overhaul
(6,000 Miles)
- Complete Bearing Overhaul – Service hubs, bottom bracket, headset, and pedals.
- Brake System Refresh – Replace pads and inspect levers.
- Wheel Check – Look for sidewall wear, cracks, and signs of failure.
- Suspension Maintenance – Service your fork and rear shock based on the manufacturer’s guide.
- Full Bike Detail – Clean, polish, and protect your frame and components.
